In detail

Cambodia is perhaps the most fascinating of all the countries of South-east Asia. Long associated with the brutal Khmer Rouge, it has risen above its blood-tinted history. It now takes its place as one of the region’s pre-eminent tourist destinations.

Cambodia is home to a truly rich mix of travel experiences. From ancient monuments and powdery beaches to remote ethnic minority villages and city life. The country never fails to excite the senses. In addition, for most visitors, Cambodia’s tranquil and timeless way of life is its greatest appeal.

Angkor Wat

Ancient Cambodia produced one of the world’s greatest civilizations at Angkor. Renowned Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world. It is merely one temple lying at the heart of a thousand others.

An enormous and elaborately detailed complex. This ancient temple city has remained the heart and soul of Cambodia for almost two millennia. Despite its popularity with ever-growing throngs of visitors, it remains a historical site that exceeds expectation.
Included in the gargantuan complex lie legions of magical temples that attest to the ability of bygone artisans. From the intricate Banteay Srei, with its detailed carvings to the beaming faces of the Bayon.
Visitors also flock to the jungle-clad Ta Prohm where tentacle-like foliage are entwined around the temple. This site provides an understanding of how it must have looked when Western adventurers first explored it in the 19th century.

Siem Reap

The town of Siem Reap has graduated from being Angkor’s service center to become an international hotspot. Teeming with modern restaurants and upmarket hotels.
Fortunately, the settlement retains much of its original charm. With old colonial shop fronts, misty lamp-lit streets and a bustling market area. It also offers access to the floating villages on the Tonlé Sap, the largest freshwater lake in South-east Asia.

Phnom Penh

In the south, Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, may not be the most sophisticated metropolis. It is a charming, bustling town, with a good selection of early 20th-century modernist architecture. There is a strong sense of history and delightful restaurants and bars.
What’s more, it offers the sort of cityscape most travelers dream of. A skyline punctuated by royal and religious spires, turrets and pinnacles rather than by office blocks.
The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda are the highlights of the capital. These provide a welcome contrast to the unavoidable reminders of Khmer Rouge atrocities.

Siem Reap – Angkor Highlighted Temples (B):

  • Beat the crowd with an early morning 7 am visit to the picturesque Ta Prohm that had nearly disappeared into the jungle and remains overgrown; an oddly haunting and exotic scene.
  • The magnificent roots of a tree; pushing between the huge stone blocks of the temple in a sort of embrace; evoke feelings that you may remember forever.
  • Continue on to visit the intricately carved Khmer ruins at Angkor Wat – one of the world’s most impressive ruins. The temple still has fine Apsara carvings in Angkorian era art.
  • Lunch is for your own account.
  • In the afternoon; explore the mysterious Royal Angkor Thom City & Bayon. Its 54-tower temple is an awesome sight. At first glance it seems a shapeless mass of stone; but further scrutiny reveals a face; and then another and another until suddenly you are engulfed by the silent; heavy; enigmatic and silent gaze through half-closed eyes; staring out from a primitive and remote time.
  • Further; visit the surroundings of the complex including the Baphou; the Elephant Terraces; the Lepper King Terrace and the Royal Place area.
  • Also visit one more ruin in the Angkor Area; Preah Khan temple; built in 12th century by King Jayavarman VII and it is the same style to Ta Prom Temple.
